Up close on cleansing

Up close on cleansing: With the change in weather your skin will be exposed to all the things that it is naturally unprotected from and as the largest organ of our bodies, it is vital you take care of it. Spruce House Norwich is an exclusive stockist of pHFormula and one of our favourite products is their foaming cleanser. So, we decided to write a blog on why cleansing is so good, how to use it and why we love it! We have also got our beauty tester using our favourite product for review next month so keep an eye out for the blog!

Why would you need cleanser?

Well skin enemies such as UV exposure, humidity, air condition and heating (not that we need it right now!) cigarette smoke etc are all forms of pollutants that can damage the skin. To protect itself, the skin creates a moisture barrier of sebum (which is oily) and while its beneficial to the skin it can cause irritation, blockages leading to acne and it can make your skin look and feel unhealthy.

cleansing So what does a cleanser do?

It’s first function is to remove dirt, washing your face removes impurities from some of those sources and creates the right environment for any products you then use after washing – allowing the skin to be penetrated properly.

It boosts hydration

By having a good skin routine, daily cleansing, followed by a good moisturiser and daily sun protection ensures your skin is hydrated leaving it plump, youthful and bright.

Reduces build up

Let’s make sure we don’t give sebum a bad name – after all, it protects from environmental nasties but without washing, your skin will experience a build up of dirt and its this that can create blockages in your follicles, increase your pore size, cause sweating and a build up of inactive skin cells. The opposite (too little sebum) allows for bacteria to penetrate the follicle causing inflammation – what we want from a good skincare routine is balance – to ensure protection and regeneration.

Good Blood Circulation

Cleansing the skin encourages circulation of blood to the face – good circulation keeps your face beautiful as it allows blood to tint your cheeks with a natural tint!

Finding the perfect Cleanser for your skin

A good cleanser is not the only skincare product that will assist you in achieving a healthy skin, you need a combination of skincare products. (It is also important to consider that the incorrect combination of skincare products can damage your skin, so we always recommend coming and having a chat first!)

For example, stripping cleansers can leave your skin feeling dry, irritated and sensitised. When this happens, trusting rich moisturisers to restore they hydration seems to be the obvious solution. Typically, stripping the skin of its natural barrier causes the skin to overcompensate by producing more sebum than is healthy – a negative skin loop!
Rich cleansers can be perceived as a 2-in-1 solution for make-up removal and cleansing, however, they leave a residue that clogs the pores. Nourishing cleansers may seem like a great idea to prevent dry skin, but certain ingredients can actually make skin drier by forming a seal that interferes with the skin’s natural regeneration process.

So, what do we stock at Spruce House?

It’s a soap-free liquid cleanser that turns into a generous, airy foam for gentle, effective cleansing. The natural blend of plant derived extracts and lactic acid effectively cleanses and removes make-up and impurities while soothing skin and leaving it feeling fresh and hydrated. We love it because its ideal for ALL skin types.

Key Active Ingredients
• Green Tea Extract – powerful antioxidant that helps neutralize harmful free radicals, prevent oxidation, improves skin texture and reduce inflammation.
• Hamamelis Virginiana Extract – helps to reduce the sebum excess and tightens skin pores. Its soothing and calming properties make this natural ingredient well tolerated by sensitive skins.
